Private Drum Lessons with Joshua Kinser

34+ years of professional experience

• In-person in Gulf Breeze, Florida

• Online worldwide

At Gulf Breeze Drum Lessons I teach a practical, results-focused system that helps students of all ages make fast, noticeable progress without frustration. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a returning player, or a serious student who wants to play with confidence and good technique, my lessons are built to get you playing real music quickly while developing solid fundamentals.

With over three decades of experience playing rock, country, jazz, funk, production shows, and worship music in orchestras, aboard cruise ships, while touring for troops with Armed Forces Entertainment tours, at weddings, private events, and playing and recording original music with touring bands, I bring real-world knowledge into every lesson. I’ve performed thousands of gigs and recorded extensively, so I know exactly what skills actually matter on stage and in the studio.

My approach emphasizes having fun learning drums and creative expression, as well as proper ergonomics and technique from day one. This helps students (especially kids) build good habits that prevent tension and injury while allowing them to play with power, speed, and control. I look to build confidence and focus in students— two things that often matter more than raw talent when it comes to long-term success and enjoyment.

Lessons are available:

•  In-person at my Gulf Breeze studio (convenient to Pensacola and Navarre)

•  Online via high-quality video lessons (great for consistent progress no matter where you live)

Students range from young beginners to adults who want to finally play the music they love or improve their gigging skills.

What Are Your Drum Lessons Like?

Drum Instruction at Gulf Breeze Drum Lessons is highly tailored to each student to make learning drums as fun and efficient as possible.

We focus on teaching drum students a collection of experience and age-appropriate rudiments, songs, and styles. Students also have  the option to record themselves playing drums  with our recording studio. This gives students the ability to learn about music production, drum recording, digital recording software, as well as studio methods, equipment, and techniques. Recording allows the student and parent to track the students progress and allows the student to have fun playing to songs the students recognize. Students also have the option of choosing their own songs to record and learn or work on their original music that they are writing, work on school band material, or work on  anything else they would like to learn. Students are given the choice of what they would like to work on, while following a structured agenda that gives them plenty of fun options to choose from each day.

Equipment and Drum Sets

Gulf Breeze drum lessons offers top of the line drum and studio equipment to make learning drums fun and easy

At Gulf Breeze Drum Lessons, I’ve built a versatile studio environment that gives students hands-on experience with professional-grade gear while supporting high-quality recording for lessons, exercises, tracks, and student progress. Beginners and intermediate players start on dedicated student kits, while more advanced students step up to premium acoustic setups that mirror real-world gig and studio conditions.

For lessons, students play on a Roland TD-27 electronic drumset — a true top-of-the-line V-Drums kit. Students love its ultra-realistic feel, dynamic response, and vast sound library for any genre.

Students also work with a Pearl brand acoustic drum set equipped with a mix of cymbals and  snare drums. This setup allows students to record drum tracks and exercises using pro mics. An 8-channel  interface and recording software is used to teach students how to record their own drums and music and to allow them to capture audio recordings as they progress as a drummer.

More advanced students transition to the Ludwig Classic Maple kit for higher-level acoustic recording sessions. These use a top-tier professional microphone collection paired with a Universal Audio interface and Logic Pro for full multi-track production, mixing, and mastering capabilities that prepare them for real studio and professional work.

This combination of electronic and acoustic drums, and pro-level recording tools creates an inspiring, practical learning environment. Students gain confidence on gear they’ll encounter in gigs and sessions, while I can produce polished lesson materials and help them capture their own playing with studio-quality results.
